PMP Certification Requirements

What are the requirements for the PMP Certification?

You must meet some educational and professional requirements to sit for the PMP exam. These requirements vary according to your level of education. Candidates who hold a secondary degree need to demonstrate more experience leading and directing projects than their counterparts who hold a bachelor’s degree.

Number of months of project management experience

If you hold a bachelor’s degree, you need to demonstrate 3 years (36 months) of non-overlapping professional project management experience. If you worked on multiple projects simultaneously, you can count only the time spent on one of these projects.

Number of hours leading or directing projects

If you hold a bachelor’s degree, you need to demonstrate 4,500 hours leading and directing projects. For this certification requirement, you can consider all the hours you spent leading and directing projects, even if they overlapped.

Number of hours of project management education

You will need 35 hours of project management education to meet this requirement. All courses and training sessions that deal with project management will count toward the total of hours.

How much does it cost?

Exam fees vary according to PMP membership status. PMI members save US$150 when they take the exam and US$90 for the certification renewal. In addition, PMI members enjoy many benefits, such as access to a global community, free tools and templates, and exclusive rewards.
